International Conference on Cartography and GIS 2012

Between 18 and 22 June 2012 at Albena tourist resort was held the IV-th International Conference on Cartography and GIS.

The event was organized by the Bulgarian Cartographic Association with the support of the International Cartographic Association and the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy. This year's conference took place under the patronage of the European Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, Ms. Kristalina Georgieva.

For the fourth consecutive year, the conference held in Bulgaria brings together professionals from around the world. Besides providing a meeting place for the academic community and businesses, the main goal of the conference is to exchange experience, knowledge and information on the latest developments in cartography in combination with GIS technologies.

  • Internet cartography and digital atlases
  • Design and production of map products
  • Cartographic visualization, virtual cartographic environment
  • GPS technology, Remote Sensing Methods

During the conference a two-day seminar dedicated to early warning and disaster management during crisis situations was held.

GIS Sofia took part in the conference by presenting two reports on completed projects. One was related to the establishment of a large-scale digital topographic map at a scale of 1:5 000, a pilot project implemented in 2011. The other project presented by the company was a Project for implementing a system for prevention and early warning of fires outside of populated areas.
